INTRODUCTION

Given the volume of products made in China and exported to the U.S., one must wonder if companies in China buy U.S. products? The answer is yes! But, apparently, they are not buying enough. Last year Japan sold almost $100 billion worth of products to China, whereas the U.S. only sold about half that much even though our economy size is 1.5 times larger. Even a comparable EU (in terms of both cultural similarity and GDP clout) did 50% better than we did.

To help US small- and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) better tap into China, MeetChinaBiz.org's annual conference this year expects to bring in between 50 and 80 buyers directly from China. There are very rigid requirements to obtaining a U.S. Visa, so the actual number of attendees is uncertain until closer to the conference date. To be hosted by Bryant University on March 17, 2005, this program is co-organized by the Rhode Island Export Assistance Center/World Trade Center RI, the State of Rhode Island, and the U.S. Small Business Administration among others. This definitive China business forum and match-making event will not only provide business leaders from both countries one-on-one partnership building opportunities facilitated by experienced bilingual business consultants, but will also bring in experts active in both markets to share their knowledge and experience with businesses in our region.
