INTRODUCTION (Last updated: 05/19/2006. Subject to last-minute changes)
Backed by extensive pre-trip matchmaking efforts, MeetChinaBiz‘s 9th SME (small and mid-size enterprises) trade mission to China from May 20-31, 2006 will cover all of the major growth engine areas of China; Shanghai (Yangtze River Delta), Chengdu (Western China), Harbin (the Old Northeast), Beijing (Bohai Sea Delta), and finally, Jinan, Qufu and Tai'an in Shandong on an add-on cultural & tourism mission co-organized by the World Affairs Council of Connecticut from May 31-June 3 to present a statue of Mark Twain's to the Province of Shandong to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Sister-State relationship between the two state/provinces.
Supported and participated by government entities from both countries and substantially subsidized by various local hosts, it is an economical, yet effective channel for US SMEs who lack access, resources or time to quickly tap into China. The success of our past 8 trips can attest to that.
Aside from the vast number of business and government leaders that our delegation will be meeting (whose total number is expected to top 1000), highlights of this mission also include complimentary attendance to the 7th Western China International Economic and Trade Fair (a.k.a. the "Western China Fair").
If you are interested but can't decide yet, we can simply start with the matchmaking first without your having to commit to going right away. You may decide after we come back with a proper match. Feel free to email us if you have any questions or would like any additional information.
In addition to the information on this upcoming mission which you will find below, you are also welcome to click here for an overview on our missions. What's more, you can find out how our past 8 missions went via links in the left bar. Please click here to view photos taken during those trips. |

CITIES VISITED
Shanghai (Heart of Yangtze River Delta) China's foremost metropolis, and financial and industrial center, Shanghai will host the World Expo in 2010. Possessing one of the largest ports and one of the most advanced transportation and trade networks in China, it's the hub for one of the country's growth engine regions known as the "Yangtze River Delta" or YRD. Once a banking center of the Far East during the early 20th century prior to the communist rule, today Shanghai is again home to many global banks and financial houses. Shanghai's industrial prominence lasted through the decades following the establishment of the People's Republic and has built up what's known today as the "six pillar industries" namely, auto, communications, power & electromechanical, chemical & petrochemical, steel & iron, as well as biomedical industries. Nicknamed "ashopping paradise", Shanghai leads in the consumer market in the country. Read more...

Harbin (Heart of Northeastern China - Russian Trade Hub) With a 10 million population and Russian-influenced culture and architecture, Harbin is the capital of Heilongjiang Province. The province boasts the highest petroleum as well as milk production, the largest deposits of gold and graphite, and 1/3 of China's timber resources. Major imports included mechanical and electrical products, logs, paper pulp, plastic in primary form, and manufactured fertilizers etc. It is now restructuring its six pillar industries; equipment manufacturing, petrochemical, food processing, energy, pharmaceutical, and forest and timber processing. Currently, 25.2% of all industrial enterprises in the province are state-owned. The province aims to introduce a "property right reform" by inviting new strategic partners, selling off assets at deep discounts, going public, bankruptcy and privatization etc. Read more...
