Shanghai China's foremost metropolis, and financial and industrial center, Shanghai will host the World Expo in 2010. Possessing one of the largest ports and one of the most advanced transportation and trade networks in China, it's the hub for one of the country's growth engine regions known as the "Yangtze River Delta" or YRD. Once a banking center of the Far East during the early 20th century prior to the communist rule, today Shanghai is again home to many global banks and financial houses. Shanghai's industrial prominence lasted through the decades following the establishment of the People's Republic and has built up what's known today as the "six pillar industries" namely, auto, communications, power & electromechanical, chemical & petrochemical, steel & iron, as well as biomedical industries. Yancheng Located in northern Jiangsu Province bordering the Yellow Sea to the east and vast stretches of marshland in the western suburbs, Yancheng occupies an area of 15,000 sq. km. with a population of 7.9 million. Yancheng has a strong industrial foundation in machinery, electronics, lighting, textile, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, building materials, clothing and food. Yangzhou Situated between the Yangtze River and the Grand Canal 240 km northwest of Shanghai, Yangzhou was already a major regional economic and political hub in the region beginning in the 7th century, due to its importance as a canal port and seaport. Wealthy salt merchants based in Yangzhou patronized artists and writers, making the city a cultural center from the 16th to the 18th century. Now that the canal has been partially restored, Yangzhou is once again an important transportation and distribution center. It also has industrial output, chiefly in cotton and textiles. One of our stops is the Yizheng Chemical Industry Area in Yangzhou, where Sinopec Yizheng Chemical Fibre, a pillar industry of the region, is located. Nanjing Located near Shanghai, Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu Province which has a developed economy and is an important city in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Nanjing's electronic equipment, chemicals, auto parts industries are top-ranked in China. Nanjing also has strong machinery, household appliance and construction material industries. One of four R&D and education centers of China, Nanjing has many excellent colleges and universities and researching institutes. Liaoyang Liaoyang is an ancient city with a long history of 2,400 years. A municipality of Liaoning Province, located in the central part of Liaodong Peninsulas, bordering Anshan - the 'Steel City' to the south, Shenyang - the Capital City of Liaoning Province to the north, Benxi - the 'Coal City' to the east, and Liaohe Oil Field to the west, Liaoyang covers a total area of 4,731 square kilometers and has a population of 1.8 million. Liaoyang has abundant natural resources. There is a wide variety of large ore deposits in Liaoyang. The most abundant ones are coal, iron, silica, baudisserite, mica, gyp, and clay, all of which are of high-grade and easy to excavate. The city is also rich in water supply, with 29 rivers and 2 reservoirs. There is also a rich mineral water resource in the city, and its hot springs and cold springs are considered to be world-class, due to their large flows, rich trace mineral content such as radon and selenium.
