Who We Are
Started in 2002, MeetChinaBiz (MCB) is a network of companies interested in or are doing business with or in China. Playing the role of both an association and an "in-house China business counsel", MCB's mission is to inform, educate and enable its member companies and others to turn China into an opportunity.
MCB currently has chapters in CT, MA, NJ, NY, PA and the Mid-west in the U.S. and member companies around the world and is still growing rapidly.
During the one-year period from 2005-2006, MCB formed a joint venture with Bryant University in Smithfield, RI to help jump-start its U.S.-China Institute. Prior to that MCB was a China-focused program initiative created under iNetwork128 (a pan-New England entrepreneur network).
How It Got Started
Back in 2001, when the US economy started to tank, inspired by Peter Drucker's belief that world economic participation is the solution to domestic recession, we began to urge our entrepreneurs to think hard about growing sales as well as lowering costs overseas. For smaller businesses, this is significant because 1) to them even just a couple of new customers would already make a difference and 2) they usually have a tight staff so big-co cost-cutting tactics such as layoffs are hardly an option.
Then we thought, what better foreign market than China, with an unmatched market potential fueled by a 1.3-billion population and rock-bottom labor and material costs, to satisfy both needs at the same time? Not to mention China’s then new WTO membership and winning bid to host the 2008 Olympics, both of which would certainly make it ever more open to Western businesses. The slogan we employed to advocate this 'new school of thought' of ours at the time was “China: A 'One Stone, Two Birds' Strategy“.
What We Do To Help
We then went ahead and launched 3 tracks of programs to not only inform and educate our entrepreneurs about the China market, but also help meet their very needs to tap into it:
Track 1: Monthly Roundtables (MCBR) where like-minded biz owners and exec's get together and share concerns, compare notes and learn from each other's experiences, so everybody becomes better informed and prepared in their new or ongoing China biz pursuits; |
|
Track 2: Business Development and Matchmaking Trips to China (MTM) where through pre-trip search and research we enable US companies to meet 1-on-1 with their counterparts in China. On each trip, the delegation will go through 4-5 cities across China and collectively meet up 100s to 1000s of business and government leaders. The costs are heavily subsidized.
Track 3: Inbound Matchmaking Conference - MCBC where we bring dozens to 100s of businesses directly from China to meet with their US counterparts in different US cities. Great for those who lack either time or budget, or both, to go to China right away...
